Default Did GM have problems w/ cam bearing alignment?

I mechanic I know told me that GM had a problem that resulted in many LS1’s being manufactured with misaligned cam bearings in the early years. Has anyone ever heard this before? Is there any truth to it?

Was it you that had the cam bearing wear on the stock cam when you pulled it out last week?

Yes, that was me. The above was an explanation I was given as to WHY it probably happened. But if it was true, I would have thought I'd have been able to find something on here.

That would be worrisome, as I have a 1998 LS1, an "early" motor. I personally have not seen many complaints about misaligned cam bearings on a stock motor.

It's possible for a LS1 to be manufactured with to much clearance on the cam bearings since there is no real established clearance numbers. .002-.003 would be good, some have much more than this. I just purchased a new set of cam bearings, installed them, and the clearance was .003 on 3 of them and the other 2 were .0045. Bought 2 new bearings of a different brand, same thing. Third set fixed it. The cam and block are nominal size. Check it out before installing a new cam.
