My mods are ..

-TR224/224 cam
-stock 2002 LS6 heads
-air intake
-160 degree thermostat
-918 springs
-malloy push rods

My shift points are currently set at 6300 rpms on the a4 2.73....

People are telling me that with my RPM's set at 6500-6600 I would turn better times at the strip.

One person with a 224/220 set up is telling me to set my gears to change at 6800 rpm's..He has a 10 second comaro. So I should probaly listen.

But Im very curious as to where your pcm is set to change gears with this cam or were you change gears manually to get the best times.

Thanks for any help.

mine is set at 6500 rpm.
you are missing some good pulling rpm by having it set too low.

Seems like 6500 rpms is the choice so far...
Im already getting to 60 mph in first gear at wot with the shift point set at 6300..

Ill probally be around 65 mph before I shift to 2nd gear now...

I picked up 2.5 mph through the 1/4 mile with this cam vrs the LS6 cam that I had the shift points set at 6300 for. So I just assumed it was good..

Hopefully Ill pick up a solid 3 mph over the LS6 cam by stretching the rpm's to 6500.

Hey man..i have the TR224/224 112 cam...i have not installed it yet..thunder racing told me to set my shift points at 6400-6500, and have my limiter set at about 6600-6700. I also have Ti retainers, which is good for a few more revs. Just curious..do you still have the stock torque converter?? i know a few people that run them on the stock converter, and they said that with a good tune the driveability isnt that bad...i know lots of people on here recommend a TC before a cam..thats why i've been holding off on my install..So if you do have the stock converter..how is it?? Also what MPH does your car shift into 3rd at? is it right around 100mph or so??

Something to be mindful of as you consider winding your A4 even higher ... then again, you may be *****-out and not care.

Well before I start keep in mind that all my times are from a track here in hawaii..

This track is very slow. Bone stock 2002 z06's run 13.0 at 111 mph here.

2002 vipers run 12.8 at 112 mph here...

F bodys run 13.5-13.8 at 100-104 mph here...

Bone stock I went 13.5-13.7 at 102-104 mph

With the LS6 H/C from a stock 2002 Z06 I went 13.2-13.4 at 104-106 mph. Out of 300 1/4 mile runs with the LS6 H/C i did manage 3 13.1's...

With the Vararam air intake I still never did better than 13.1 but O would now trap from 105.2-106.3 mph ( no more 104's)

Then with the untuned TR 224/224 cam I run consistent 13.0-13.2's at 106.9-108.8 mph...

I have only went once with the 160 thermostat. ( just installed a week ago) But I pulled a 13.0 at 108 mph off a 2.1 60 ft.

All my other 13.0's were off 2.0 60 fts. This was my 13.0 off a 2.1 60 ft. I also trapped 87.5 mph in the 1/8 on the one run with the 160 thermostat. Also a new record for me personally..

As far as drivability goes with the stock TC.....As long as you warm the car up for 10 seconds or so it will drive 100% just like normal..

In the 3 months Ive had the cam ive had only one stall.

As you can see by this post having the shift points set at only 6300 rpm's has hurt my potential performance with this cam..

Im sure when I bump up the revs from shifting at 6300-6500 rpm's I will pick up another tenth with this cam over the LS6 cam...

I currently go from 2nd to 3rd gear at 100 mph with the 2.73 gears stock TC and shifting at 6300 rpm's with the TR224/224 .563 112 LSA cam.

As far as killing the transmission. Thats one good thing about the 2.73 gears. How many people break the transmission when they have the 2.73's???

Not saying it's impossible. But very rare compared to the mn6 3.42 or higher ratios

Gears won't make any difference to transmission longevity - it's spinning up the internals at high rpms that tends to break 'em.

I'm shifting at 6800, rev-limiter set at 7300.

I've tried 6000, 6200, 6400, 6600, 6800, 7000 and I got best result with 6800.

My trans holds fine on motor, but can't hold at 75 shot from 2nd to 3rd, it really did not like the 150

All he want to is go out and run he's best time, our track is closing next month.

I said go for the 6800 and get the most out of his setup, atleast 6600.

The stock trans will last just fine if taken care of, trans cooler, changing fluids, deep pan.
