Question Katech Rod Bolt Swap - Engine Removal?

I've got a set of Katech rod bolts here and I want to install them before spraying the motor in the next month or so. I do have access to a lift, and I'm hoping I can do the swap with the engine in the car. I do still have the stock K-member.

How did you go about installing your rod bolts?

Thanks in advance guys!

I'm not 100% positive that you need to take out the engine, but it would probably be the easiest way to do it. Trying to get the oil pan off and get to the bolts will be a PITA with the engine still in the car. We did a rod bolt and H&C swap in a weekend. Got the engine out Friday night and had the car put back together and running by sunday afternoon.

If you have access to a lift, just pull the motor out of the bottom.

I've heard of folks hanging the engine from the strut tower brace and removing the K-member to complete the job, I was just hoping that there was some way to remove the oil pan with the K-member still intact.

Been there, done that, unless you're Houdini you can't pull the oil pan out without lowering the K-member. If you were to support the engine from the top though you could drop the k-member entirely and probably do it that way. I think I remember one or two people that have done it that way.

It would probably still be easier to take the motor out entirely and put it on a stand.85

you dont have to take the motor out, or even the transmission for that matter to do the swap.

support the motor from the top across the shock towers, unbolt the engine stands from the k-member, drop the k-member, pull pan, change bolts, re-assemble.

i just did a header and oil pan swap for a friend that is putting together a turbo setup in like 3 1/2 hours using this method.

thats what i am doing, put a pressure treated 4*4 from home depot across the shock towers with some real good straps to hold up the motor.
