Default Pro's and Con's of driving with a big cam

Looking for info on the positives and negatives of driving a car with a decent sized cam (X3 or equivelant) as apposed to stock.

I know from reading on this site that a good tune can make or break the cam's drivability, so what differences does it really make besides more power, and moving the power range up in rpm's?

Would gears (4.10's) be a neccessity? (M6 car)

Will I be running high rpm's all the time to function normally?

Just let me know the differences to expect compared to stock.

Thanks

its all about the tune. with a big cam your low end will suffer some. its surely still drive able in the low end but just wont be as responsive/torquey down there. now when you get on it, it will be a totally different car too. now your gas milage will go down some also in the city and a little on the hwy

i have the x3 cam and have no driving problems at all. i have a m6 w/4.11's. i really don't notice any negative difference between stock and a big cam,it's all been positive. you do not have to drive around at hi-rpm's all the time for the cam to function. i have not noticed a big difference in lo-rpm loss either. i use overdrive on the hi-way all the time at 1,700-1,800 rpm's with no surging or bucking. hell...i'm moving up to the x4 cam in a few weeks. goodluck to ya.

Taller gears are menat to keep you in the rpm (power) range of your cam. The aren't designed with the most streetability in mind.

Thanks for the input. What were your supporting mods for the X3? Specifically, were you cam only, or heads too?
