Default Failing Oil Pump?

This is starting to freak me out. I have recently noticed that my oil pressure seems a bit low. While cruising hwy at 80 mph the pressure is steady at 40 psi. It used to be around 50psi. About 3500 miles ago I was using thick 20w-50 oil in the car to help diagnose some problems. I have since changed the oil to 10w30 and the filter. I occasionally hear a strange noise like a slight grinding sound. I only hear this sound when it is cold and it doesn't sound like it is in one general area so I don't know about that one. I haven't ever seen the oil pressure fall suddenly or anything while driving down the road but sometimes when I start the car up it is higher than 40 psi and sometimes it is around 40. Should I be worried. Oh yeah car has 166k miles on it and I don't think it has ever been replaced.

Default

The 98 pumps have had more problems than the later years. With 166k on the clock it might be time to stick in a ported ls6 pump for the piece of mind.
