Default How many passes can you get out of stock 01/02 L19 rod bolt?

In process of re-assembling stock shortblock, would like to re-use the stock L19 bolts if it is safe to do so. If it is safe, what is the spec? Thanks.

Why not spend $80 on a set of ARP rod bolts??? Its well worth it.

My engine has held up very well to a 6800 rpm limiter over the years with the stock 01 Z06 shortblock. But if I had the engine out and apart I would SURELY go with Arp rod bolts.

Because ARP's could possibly change the clamp force or throw the rod bearings out of round. Also a consideration is the difference in weight between stock and ARP's having an effect in balance.

I'm still not decided on what I'm going to do. I know L19's have proven to work very well, much better than the 98-00 bolts. I don't think there will be a problem using them, I'm just concerned with streching them again. If I can be assured the arp's weigh what stock does, I might just use those.

re-use?

i thought the rod bolts, like many other bolts on the ls1, were torque to yield? therefore, re-using a bolt isn't recommended?

i'd suggest katech rod bolts...if it's out and apart, why not?

It won't change the balance of the rottating assembly enough to be a problem. I have never heard of someone hurting a rod bearing from more clamping force. Don't reuse a torque to yield bolt. I would go with a set of arp 2000 bolts.

Incorrect. Just get the ARP bolts. The only way you will deform the bearing is if you can't read a torque wrench & just go nuts on it. Many people change out rod bolts without any problem. Weight is gonna be so minimal it won't ever play a role.
