What cam is for me?
I'm wanting to put a fairly decent cam in my camaro, what would be the biggest cam I could put in my ls1 (m6, 3.42s for the time being)?? For right now its stock, but within the next year planning on getting LT's and Lingenfelter heads. I looked at the Patriot 226/226duration 585/585lift cam, and that looks appealing, but, I'm no professor on what would be good, so advice please?
Thanks,
Caleb

wait and do the heads and cam at the same time. And you need to either already have the long tubes done, or do them at the same time also. You will not notice much of a gain from the cam without those LT's. If this is going to be your daily driver I would say you could prolly go to a 230/230, but if this is your weekend machine then go to like the HPE 'S' cam or something just as big.

toooonnnnssss of info. this question is the most asked on the forum. You'll find comments made by anyone from the novices to the experts
To start you off, fairly 'decent' and 'biggest cam' are way different. 226/226 is fairly decent regarding size. generally, to retain stock driveability, anything under 230/230 duration is game. Trex / MS3 cams are among the biggest. in the high 230s low 240s.
I went with 224/228 on a 113 lsa for good power under the curve, stock driveability and a good lope. seriously, that sticky 'cam guide' rules.
