Is my LS1 "up to par"-how to check
i was wondering becuase of my miles 133k how do i determine if my engine is becoming "weak"....compression test? I just buy one of those tools and screw it in to where the spark plug goes for each cylinder. I wanna put a cam in my car, but i dont wanna do it if my engine is not "up to par".

Run it down the 1/4. If it runs about 13.X then you're fine. If it blows then you know its time for a rebuild. JK.
If you love in TX I am sure that there are plenty of shops you can go to locally for a good check up.

Put the plug in where the spark plug goes.
Unplug the coil packs.
Hit the starter ( bump it, don't hold it ) 5-6 times
Take the reading. Write it down.
Continue on the other 7 cylinders.
Compare numbers; they should all be within 10% of each other.
Cost of kit - maybe $25?

Compression check is valid. Possibly for a bit more in depth information, a leak down test would be yet stronger detail of her cylinder and valve condition. Just an additional thought. Replacement of ALL fluids would also be additional insight with close scrutiny of the condition of the old stuff drained out at the time.
