Default 5.3 and 5.7 LS heads stock valves sizes?

what is the stock valves sizes of each head above?

how do i know that the head i'm buying from the junkyard is a 5.3 LS head?

does it have certain casting number that i can identify the 5.3 head with it?

thanks for the info.

The 5.3 heads come with 1.89"/1.55" valves and the 5.7 heads come with 2.00"/1.55" valves. The 5.3 heads will have a casting number of 862 or 706. The 5.7 heads can have 806 (97-98 perimeter bolt), 241 or 853 (99-up LS1 heads), and 243 (LS6/LS2 heads).

The factory chamber on a 5.3 head is approx. 61cc.

Some guys will use 5.3 heads to up their compression. The heads flow like a LS1, but have the smaller chamber.

You can improve the flow by increasing the valve size and doing some work to the bowl area along with a good valve job. If you would like, we will be glad to price doing our CNC porting to your set of heads.

thanks again Gunnar.

halla PREDATOR-Z (smile), you know i have to ask questions to get some answers.

last question (smile) : what compression with 0.015" milled 5.3 head and stock GM head gasket in a stock 346 short block?

will i be safe from the valves hitting the pistons with the 0.015" milled 5.3 head, stock GM head gasket and the TSP 233/239 cam in a stock 346 LS1 short block?

thanks.
