Default Checking for cam damage through lifter bore?

I am pretty sure that I have a collapsed lifter so I am about to pull the heads and replace the lifters. Will I be able to see if the cam is damaged by looking down the lifter bore after I pull the lifters out? Or should I just pull the crank pulley and timing cover and take the cam out? Im just trying to save some time and money by not getting the front main seal and new crank bolt.

You can tell. I mean common sense tells me that the lifter has to roll on the cam so there is an opening. But yes when I was replacing my lifters you can see the cam lobes. You would just have to spin the cam.
