Default Head/Cam decision made.

With my research now finished, I have finalized my parts choices.

Dart ported and polished heads - 315 CFM flow at .550 lift
Precision Motorsports custom cam - 222/224 LSA 114
Kooks headers
Comp Cams roller lifters and push rods
Double Roller Timing Chain
Ported LS6 oil pump

I will be ready in about 30 days to start this build up. Wish me luck.

I bet you in less that 1 month after the install you'll wish you went a bigger cam.

One month after the install? I am betting after one DAY of driving it tuned, you will want bigger. FWIW, my 228/230 114+1 drives as close to stock as you can imagine, definately go bigger on the cam.

Som ss, I got the same cam and you can't go wrong with it. You won't have to switch when you go force induction, and you won't have to keep replacing springs every few months. Big cams will get you more power, but when you're car starts dying as you turn on the a/c; you will wish that you had better driveability. Plus, reving over 6500 rpm on a stock bottom end is just asking for it.

You'll want a bigger cam. I changed mine in July and am already changing it within the next month.

I have none of the problems you describe. Turning the a/c on doesn't phase my car at all, even BEFORE the tune. If you have a high 220s, low-mid 230s duration cam, and it's not driving right, it's the tuner, not the cam.

I have to disagree with the 6500 limit on stock bottom end as well. If you have an 01-02 then you have the LS6 rodbolts, and the LS6 has the limiter set to 6500 from the factory. Do you really think that GM set that at the ragged edge of disaster? No way! They set it conservatively. So upgrade your valvetrain and spin to say 6800, you'll be fine. I have had the limiter set to 6800 on two different cammed LS1 cars, one was an 01, the other, my current car, is an 02.

it sounds it will be a solid 400-425rwhp car. you will love the new power.

i put some hand ported ls1 castings with a 10.6:1CR and a mild 222/224 .566/.568 114
and made 400rwhp 375rwtq and loved it.... with an open cut-out that cam sounded bad-***..... near stock charactoristics, great torque, powerband of 3,000-6200++

it all depends on your goals for the car.... if your going for max output, get somthing bigger, but if you need to pass smog, and you want a reliable set-up....

i think you will like your set-up alot.

good luck.

btw... what CR are you going for ?
