Default Engine Assemble

I am about to put my Ls1 together. Has anyone assembled their LS1 with out the alignment tools GM sells (and recommends) to align the front and rear covers so thaqt the oil pan align right? Does anyone have these tools that I could rent or you could come over? I am also looking for the donut like tool that allows one to the rear seal onto the back of the motor

I've seen people just use a straight edge, make sure that all for courners are flush.

I heard a lot of people bolt the oil pan first then align the front and rear cover left or right.

It's been awhile, but when we put together my dad's LS1 in the Firehawk we didn't use the tools, just were real careful about lining it all up. Engine's been together for about 1.5 years w/o an oil leak. If I had access to one, I would probably use it, but since I don't, mine will probably go back together w/o it too. Hopefully with the same luck.

CHRIZ28,

How did you get the rear seal over the crank? Did you just force it?
