Default Question about Heads removal

Do you have to remove the rockers in order to remove the heads..every write-up I've read has said to remove the rockers but I'm simply removing my heads so my engine will be easier to remove, so I figured I could leave them attached and just remove the head bolts. Thanks ahead for the help!

I do believe thats impossible. You will be picking up 16 pushrods off the floor if it were even possible but the tray the rockers sit on blocks some of the head bolts.

Technically, you can remove the heads without unbolting the rocker arms, but you would have that added stress of the pushrods pushing against the heads when you're loosening the head bolts. This might be enough to pull some threads from the block when you're removing the last of the bolts.

It would be a tight fit getting to some of the head bolts. Even if you could I wouldn't. There are 16 8mm bolts to remove. You don't want to fight to have to get the heads off. Besides you'll need them off when you reassemble.

I don't think you can, with the stock setup the rocker support (cast aluminum piece) will cover some of the bolts. With aftermarket rockers, like the Cranes, there is access to these bolts.
