I am going to be doing a heads and cam package on a 02 F-body LS1 pull out that I purchased for my RX7. It has 30k on the motor. I was curious as to whether the stock pump from a 02 is the same part as the LS6 oil pump. I thought I read somewhere on here that the 02 Camaro's already came with the better pump. Can someone who knows confirm. I am going to get the LS2 timing chain and need to no whether or not to order the LS6 pump.

yup same pump.

So if all looks good, all I need to do is port it while I'm in there and that would be the same as buying the ported LS6 pump without the shimming to increase the pressure. I do not want to raise the oil pressure, just get a little better flow.

I was in the same boat as you. I went ahead and replaced mine with a ported LS6 pump form Thunder racing.

was ordering my LS7 clutch from fredbeans and gene told me about the LS4 pump. It flows more than the ls6 ported. Only $65. This is what I got.
