1/2inch head stud conversion questions
Sup , I have quick question on converting to 1/2 inch stud . When machining for 1/2 inch stud is the new 1/2 inch stud like regular ford 1/2 stud that the threaths in on top instead of the stud going a couple of inches deep and then goes into threat . Cause machining the block for the treaths staying on top would be alot easier . But would there be an disdvantage on having it on top instead of alot deeper in the block ?Let me know
Thanx

If you are proposing threading the top portion of the head bolt tapped hole so you can use a larger diameter stud, don't do it. The threads are deep to spread out the stress field into the block. Near the top, thread rip out under load could become an issue. Also, the aluminum will deform some small amount due to the loads, having this deformation near the gasket surface may cause head gasket leaks and/or failures.

We install the 1/2" head studs to the factory depth with the upper portion of the hole clearance drilled. As vettenuts said, the threads at the top will distort the deck. Also the factory clearance hole diameter is too large to get a full thread engagement.
