Default slp pulley install woes

let me preface this thread by saying i've installed a cam in an ls1/6 motor ~14 times.

i bought a brand new slp pulley for my c5, and it will NOT go on the snout of the crank. the inside of the pulley must be machined improperly. the inside of the pulley has some weird marks where it looks like the snout of the crank is just digging in it.

my usual routine is to gently tap on the pulley as even as possible with a board and a dead blow hammer. then i usually use the crank bolt to draw it up the rest of the way. however the last 3 i've done and in this case, i've used an install tool i rented from autozone. i also put it in the oven @ 275* for 20 mintues or so with no luck.

guess i'll have to send it back....i had a voice in the back of my head say 'no no no' when i way buying it...i haven't had much luck with slp stuff.

has anyone else had bad luck with slp, or any other pulleys?

also, the slp pulley is much heavier than stock...??

I have the powerbond, which is the same as the SLP. Mine went on easily and seems to be good quality. Im surprised youre having an issue with it, since its not actually SLP that makes it. Best sent it back in just to be sure.

Exact same reaction as Guits. No problems. I don't like the idea of banging on the crank snout for any reason. Just pull it on with a longer bolt.

Well, whatever you do, don't go with a March pulley. You think you have problems getting this pulley on, wait till you try and take a March off.

On my buddies car, we took a standard 3 bolt puller and opened each slot an extra 1/8 inch so it fit the wider bolt pattern, took it off no problem.

Call slp, you might try warming it up in the oven and use a rod and nuts to pull pulleys on. Doesn't matter if you've done 50 with the bolt, when the bolt jams on the 51st you'll wish you had taken the little extra time to get a rod and nuts.
