317 heads question

317 heads question
If I put some regular stock 317's unported etc on a forged 346 with a T76 would I be leaving alot of power on the table? I do have upgraded springs and valvetrain and a turbo cam. I just dont think I can afford ported/polished heads and a new motor right now at the same time.

317s flow like 243s, i think you would have a noticable improvement.
IMO if you are going to build a forged motor, dont do a 346, buy a LQ4. it will already have 317s on it, and you could sell your LS1 for more than you buy an LQ4 for. things that need to be switched on an LQ4 to work in an f body are: accessories, water pump and oil pan. otherwise they are identical. only modification you will have to do is drilling and taping a hole for the alt.
