Default Pinging (knock) above 5000 rpm

I have a 2001 SS with a few bolt on's. I am getting knock above 5000 rpm. I un-installed HPP3 and still am getting kock so that doesn't seem to be the problem. If I put a good octane booster in (NOS Racing Formula) the pinging will stop. I am fixing to change plugs to see if that helps. Should I use NGK TR55's or TR6's here in this Houston climate.

Thanks
Frank

You do use Premium gas right? 92 octane should be the MINIMUM you use in your LS1.

Otherwise, you might look into getting ATAP and a MAFT.

What mods do you have? Any free mods like porting/de-screening of your MAF?

I use 93 octane, either Texaco or Chevron. 2001 Camaro SS M6. Mods: Dual center mounted cat-back, Direct Flow Lid, Holley Power Shot Filter, HPP3, FRA (to be done this weekend). No other mods. I have changed the PCV valve to the new one that has been talked about on this site. I did this to try and eliminate the knock more so than oil consumption(See Steve Hovis site concerning pinging and excess oil getting in through pcv valve). Spark plugs are the only thing that I have not changed. I was going to do this anyway.

Thanks
Frank
