whats the best way to do it without damaging it?

It's very difficult to remove it without damaging it. It may look alright, but the runout on it can be out of spec. To remove it, heat up the wheel, not the crank, with a torch. Then lightly hammer around the edges of the wheel while continuing to heat it. It should come off eventually. I'd purchase a new one to replace it, GM part# 12559353. They are only around $15. You will need a special tool to reinstall it that's made by Goodson, part# RRJ-350. Unfortunately, it's extremely overpriced. You could make your own but you have the have the dimensions EXACT, or the car won't run, or run very well.
