Default 2002 ls1 with a Z06 cam, will it work??

I have a 2002 ls1 with 7000 miles and would like to know
what all is needed to put a Z06 cam in. Would I need head work??
I know the intake is Z06. I also think the Z06 cam is not that
big of a cam. I may be wrong. Help me out guys. Do I need to
get my heads ported??

No you dont need any other modifications to run a ls6 cam. All you need is ls6 springs, the cam itself isnt that big. My car made 360hp 370tq with headers, ls6 cam, intake.

All `01 -`02 cars have LS6 springs.
For the money you would be better off with something else Maybe Hotcam or ASA. JMO

you're going to need different pushrods also.

If you want a small cam like that you should at least go with the GT2-3 cam. It is only slightly bigger, 207/220,.571/.578, 118.5 LSA. It will give you about 10 more HP and you can use the LS6 springs. It has the same idle as the stock cam also.

pushrods need to be the 7.425 length, perfect fit. I had no noise, and it was the perfect pre-load on them when I had that cam. The base circle is slightly smaller than the stock cam.

Sorry if I was incorrect, but I was told all `01- up LS1's have upgraded springs.
I assumed they were LS6 Springs
Don't tell me they have the same crap the `97-`00 cars have. Do They ?

In your opinion what would be a better performing cam with similar idle quality and drivability?

I used stock pushrods when I had my LS6 cam and there was no noise at all. They fit perfect.

A slightly larger cam with similar idle quality and drivability would be the Lingenfelter GT2-3, but really, I think you could go all the way up to a TR224 on a 114 LSA, and it would idle with a slight chop, but most people complain that that particular cam "doesn't sound like the engine has a cam in it." It is all in the tune though...the tuning aftermarket has come a long way over the past couple years.

But that's not what I was referring to with my post...it was the assertion that 2001-2002 LS1s all had the upgraded LS6 valve springs. There are so many myths about LS6 blocks and this and that and the other that people get really confused and don't know what is right and what isn't. There is a lot of bad information out there...

You'd really have to define "fit perfect." Sure, they may have fit in the hole perfect...but did they really provide the correct lifter preload? Pushrod length is one of the big ways to set lifter preload with non-adjustable rockers, so being off on the length would lead to more or less preload than is desirable.

That's what I went with, worked out quite well. 7.425" comp. PR's here.
