Default What is safe to clean heads?

I have some oil and buildup inside and on the combustion chamber of my heads. Whats the best cleaner that is safe for seals and everything to clean them with while they are off the car?

TIA

Has the simple green worked on carbon? I am doing a set of heads right now as well. I used a chop stick to get off the heavy stuff (no scratches) and now need to do the final cleanup.

How about the valves where the carbon is a bit harder?

How about Carb Cleaner? It cleans, it dries well. I've never had a problem with the head gaskets sealing after using it.

Carb Cleaner works great in those small areas you can not get with a brush. I would also blow the heads off with air.

Carb/Brake cleaner works great...

Get a small plastic ice scraper to remove any old gasket also.
