new cam install
I started a cam in stall and I have a question. I bought some 5/16 wooden dowels for holding the lifters up, I placed them in the block in the appropriate holes after spinning the cam in each direction several times. my question is if the lifters will still go up and down after spinning the cam and the dowels are in place? I was trying to make sure that the lifters were up before I slide the cam out, so I put a push rod back in place and the pushrod goes up and down about a 1/4 of a inch when I spin the cam. Does the dowel go under the lifter or to the side of it in the lifter groove??? I just don't want to drop a lifter. Thanks for any help.

Maybe this will help. I will be doing my first cam install in a couple of weeks. Good luck and keep us updated.

thanks for the help, I have already read and printed that out and I'm following it to the T. My question is will the lifters still go up and down when I have 5/16 dowels in place and turning they cam, cause my do? Does the dowels really need a flat spot, I've heard they don't need the flat spot.

No the lifters will not go up and down once you have the dowels in place. They will not go up and down till you take the dowels out and use the pushrods to push the lifters back down to the cam. Most the time once your push rods are out and you spin the cam the lifters will stay up thedowels are just there to make sure they don't fall when the cam is out.
