Default How high should I spin my stock cam?

I use to think 6600 rpm was fine but I was wondering if the powerband had dropped off at a lower RPM and if I was actually hurting myself as far as performance goes? Thank you.

What engine to you have in the 1st place an LS1, LS6 or an LS2 because they are different beasts in this deparment. 6,600 seem too high for a stockish LS1 I think something closer to 6100-200 would be alot better 6,600 would be a better shift point on either a LS2 or an LS6. I don't even rev my 32v 4.6 past 6,600 and my engine peaks higher than any stock LS1.

6600 is definately WAY to high. While stock my car peaked at 5300, and stayed flatlined from about 5300-5700. I had the shift-lite set at 5900-6k, and the limiter at the factory pre-set 6200. Car went 12.30s@113 with bolt-ons.

Yea then you really can keep it under 6 grand with an LS1 maybe if you had LT's and a full exhaust you could stick with 6,100 but why stress your parts more for nothing truthfully I wouldn't even rev an LS2 to 6,600 because it pretty much falls off around 6,000 but some people don't really care I know guys that rev their Mach 1's to 7 Grand which is dumb because they peak in the mid 5,000's

I say the stock limiter is probably high enough for a stock cam and stock springs. so I guess I would say between 5700 and 6000

I have the limiter set at 7000RPM but I was always shifting at 6200. I use to always shift at 6600 in my Z28 but wasnt sure if it was needed this time around to spin so high on a stock cam. You get older and you get wiser....... maybe
