Where can I get the ID. eng number to ID. the LS 1 engine? Where would the numbers be located on the block. This engine has a cast iron block with LS 1 alum. heads.

Default Ls 1

Near as I can tell without taking it apart is that it could be a 4.8 or a 5.3. The only part of the casting# I can make out is the 12551 & the heads are 862 & I was told it was a 99 model.

Ya looks like the 4.8 and 5.3 use the same block and heads, The 5.3 would still run pretty good, lots of guys use them as they are cheaper,
