Oil Pressure gauge reads 40psi, mechanical 23psi, WTH
Well my oil pressure gauge has been acting up and suddenly dropping low, so I went and bought a cheapo sunpro mechanical gauge. Mechanical reads 40psi cold, in car gauge reads 50. When it warms up, the mechanical reads about 20-24PSi and the in car 38-40psi. Now when the in car gauge drops to 24psi which is what had me freaking out, the mechanical holds steady at about 24. So the in car guage drops its reading the actual oil pressure instead of over by about 15psi. As soon as I tap the gas the mechanical jumps in the 30's and stays around 40psi from 1500-2000 rpm. It climbs about 10psi per 1000rpm like its supposed to, at 4000-5000rpm its somewhere between 40-50psi. Everyone has told me not to worry about it, that it can be perfectly normal and as long as its getting pressure with RPM its a non issue. Its just that 20psi at idle looks scary, even though apparantly the in car gauge is wrong and thats where it has always idled. What do you think?

I was told only the 98s had the True pressure shown and that later versions are basically a dummy gauge unless it goes to like 6psi, this may or may not be true but I have very seen very similar results with my car.
