Default Another piston poll... Lunati, or MAHLE?

MAHLE was the victor over the Diamonds in the last poll, how about Lunatis?

Naturally aspirated, non nitrous application.

Ahh yes, and post your reasons why

N/A I don't think it will make that much diffrence. I prefer Wiesco over them all. I thought Lunati used JE pistons in their kits anyway? Do they even make a piston anymore?

The Lunati pistons I have were made by Wiesco...I am not sure but I think the ones Lunati has now are made in house..

Lunati pistons are now Wiseco (except of course any shelf stock they have laying around that hasn't been sold through yet from before)!

Anyone ever used Arias, I ordered JE and my order was screwed up and I received Arias pistons. They are 760$ a set as JE's run about 590$ a set. I am curious to try them instead of sending them back. If anyone has used them or seen them used I would appreciate some advise.

I don't know about their LSX series line but brand has been a trusted one in other venues for a long time. I wouldn't have a problem using them.

Lunati pistons are produced by Wiseco to their specification. From the start, they requested "high feature" pistons for their combinations and have set very stringent quality standards. There are about 24 measurements they regularly check and verify with new shipments to keep us on our toes They have quite a few compression ratio and rod/stroke combinations that Wiseco doesn't offer.

One Unique thing about Lunati is the fact they produce the crank, rods, and cam as well. They've tuned in the individual components to work with each other better than a component manufacturer can. As a "for instance", their connecting rods are designed for a perfect fit in our forgings...very little unsupported wristpin span (which allows pins to bend and break). Little things like that mean a lot.

I'd invite anyone with a CMM to compare random Lunati pistons to the competition. I've got a list of 24 things they can check that show REAL manufacturing tolerances versus magazine ad fluff or big name racers pitching a particular brand as long as they receive free pistons. -Brian Nutter

When your looking to make big power with a power adder i agree 100%. But a street build thats naturaully aspirated i think mahle is the top dog. Less wear and better thermal expansion charectaristics put it above the diamond in this application in my eyes.

wiseco ???. I already tried the Mahle boost pistons and they are junk...tiny ringlands....brittle material etc. Ordered the wisecos and the skirt wear is exactly the same and of course hold up to lots more power with mucher thicker ringland.

I agree, Mahle was junk, small top ring down space and brittle 4032 silicon-aluminum alloy.

All I have ever used in my motorcycle rebuilds (high RPM, high stress and wear 2-stroke motors, off-road) is Wiseco. I think they are one of the only suppliers in the off-road motorcycle word, and they ALL hold up very well for the high stress and RPM world that motorcycles can put their pistons through...

lol I love how people are happy with their pistons.

Either they take what you give to them or they dont, as far as Im concerned. There is no middle-of-the-road for pistons. They either work or they break. Lame pole, IMHO.

for n/a street engines i think the ring pack and coating that comes with mahle's are hard to beat.

I chose them for my 347 and it is a solid little engine with no piston slap.
