anyone run 228/232 vinci or 228/228 crane cam SDPC
I am considering either of these cams for my DD, and wondering what some thoughts are on them. I feel these two are a good compromise without going to wild or to mild. The specs are for Vinci
DUR @ .004" 290*/ 294*
DUR @ .050" 228*/ 232*
LIFT .551 / .551
OVERLAP 68*- What does this overlap mean, I know how to calculate overlap, but come up with a different number which is +6 overlap
LSA 112* " THE BEAST "
DRAG & TRACK TIME
POWER RANGE 2700 TO 6500
TUNING & STALL CONVERTER REQUIRED
MONSTER DYNO NUMBERS
ROUGH IDLE
SDPC Crane
228/228 600 lift 113 LSA-although I would probably get it cut on a 551 lift so I could use the cheap LS6 springs and not worry about changing them for a while. These custom ground cams for SDPC are supposed to be easy on springs. They have another cam 236/236 113 LSA but I think that might be to wild for everday driving with no low end torque

I am leaning towards the Vinci since it already has the 112 LSA and 551 lift. But I am wondering how aggressive the lobes are, I don't know if I can use LS6 springs. The springs on the website http://www.vincihighperformance.com/...%20PARENT.HTML
he sells are more than what I would like to spend if I can get away with cheaper springs like the LS6 ones. His are 360 and 440 dollars
The search didn't bring up to much on the vinci cam and zero on the other one.

use the 228/232 .551/.551 112+5. i strongly recommend using crane #144832-16 springs. cam is ground on (hr5 lobes), the aggresiveness of this lobe design is in between comp XER-XFI lobes. this cam makes awesome trq, and good upper rpm hp. works well with 3:73+gear, and 3400 stahl. 2600-6900 usuable rpm range.

You guys are right, no sense in having the engine destroyed over a few bucks, but I just didn't want to spend extra money for something that is overkill or not needed.
You guys know how long I could go between spring changes with that vinci. I hoping for at least 45-50k.
As much as I want to stay away from the hotcam or ASA, they sure are tempting for their ease on the springs

The price for springs includes titanium retainers and the spring seats necessary to use the springs. PM me with any questions you might have. Also, that cam is on sale here on the forum. I have a few left. Check in the sponsor sales section. Joe

I would consider the newer 833 springs rather than the 832's. The lift isn't too high, but not sure you can get 50K miles from any spring. While the duals are nice, Crane just came out with some beehive springs. Not sure how they would work but you might want to talk to Joe about them. This would reduce your accelerated mass quite a bit. Vinci does a lot of the R&D for Crane, so dollars to donuts they know about these new springs.
Good luck, waiting to see your results.

I have used the 228/232 xer cam (.588/.595 lift) with crane 832's shimmed to 1.74 installed height. They provided plenty of control even with crane 1.7 rockers all the way to 6800. I also used the crane 833's with the large L92 valves and have no issues there with float. Both are good springs.
