'96 Vortech 5.7 w/ LT4 HotCam
Saw this as an option on some GM truck sites, but there are some tech. questions I have and can't get help. Wht needs to be done to accomadate this swap and enable it to work properly? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If its stock, you'll have to pull the heads and have the valve guides machined so the spring retainers do not interfere with the valve seals. You would have to do this for valve lift above .470" lift. You would also need new valve springs, you can use the Hotcam specific springs for lift up to .550" lift FYI. The cam itself would bolt right in, although the LT1 style alignment dowel would have to be shortened. Some '96 L31 engines did not have roller cams, but the blocks would accept factory pieces just fine as the blocks were machined for roller cams anyways. I have a '99 L31 engine built up thats installed in my '67 Camaro right now, with a carb and 10.5-1 compression.
I would imagine if its still in a '96 pickup you'd need good PCM tuning for the Hotcam to run, I've 'heard' running the stock 1.5 ratio rockers helps in TBI and L31 engines with EFI. If its carbed don't worry about anything except getting the vortec specific intake manifolds.
