Default H/C options

I'm shopping around for a good head/cam setup for my WS6. I don't plan to order anything immediately, but plan to take a month or so to decide for sure what to buy, then order in August.

My WS6 is a daily driver, so I want to maintain decent vacuum and idle. (My current mods are in my signature) I do like a slightly choppy idle, but not anything that is going to die out on me at a stoplight.

Heads are going to be the first decision, then a cam to match them. What are the best head options out there for a LS1 (and how much $$$ do they run)?

i'm happy with my budget TEXAS SPEED (LS1 tech sponsor) aprox $900 cast# 243 ls6 heads. i would recommend upgraded springs (mine stock ls6) the cam depends on your needs drivability, gas milage, rwhp goals. i went with the ls6 2002 factory cam. 550 lift 204/218 dur. 117.5 lsa. LOW rwhp numbers but runs smooth and idles at 600 rpm (wow). i would go slightly bigger next time. maybe 560 lift with 221 duration. still streetable but i'm not looking for huge dyno #'s. just my 2 cents! good luck.

I have actually been eyeing the PRC CNC LS6 heads and the 228R, 233/239, or Torquer V2 cams. They (PRC LS6 heads) are my front runners so far because they are so reasonable.

I know the AFR 205 or 225s heads are better, but they cost 225% more. I haven't ruled them out, but that's a lot more money. I'd like to see what the gains are over the PRCs.

My cam put down 374rwhp/361rwtq cam only with a 12.4:1 A/F. I DD my car and after tuning the characteristics are awesome. 111LSA so even though it's small it has a nice lumpy idle once it warms up. Cold start is always successful, doesn't die at a stop, even with A/C on. Can cruise the highway in 6th at as low as 1300 RPM (even though my clutch is telling me to go **** off), and car doesn't buck. There is SOME when the car is still not fully warmed up, but goes away. It's smaller than the 228R you listed though, so not sure if you wanted something that small. Search for my graph on my fquick page www.fquick.com/lastcall190 if you want.
