Default filled blocks?

Can you drive filled block cars around for any short period of time, or are they really only good for quick quarter mile passes before they overheat? Vary block to block? depend on cooling system?

thanks

I always assumed filled blocks where for drag racing only. They fill them to make the block stronger and to do away with the cooling system since the car isn't running long enough to get hot enough to overheat. Im no expert though.

Yes, some fill them halfway, some are agressive enough to ill it all the way.

A half filled block is just fine on the street, not sure if you will see the benefit though unless your throwin alot of jug or boost at it. The block gets most of its heat at the top near the heads since thats were most of the heat is generated anyway so the bottom half is not as important. I say this just off experience with SB/BB chevys and they dont have the cooling capabilities of the LS1 to begin with so I would think since Ive done it with them you could more than likely do it with the LS1. Just make sure you are using Hardblok or some other namebrand filler thats made for aluminum.
