Biggest cam I can run w/ out flycutting w/ tea heads
I have TEA stage 2 5.3 heads milled .015. I was wondering if anyone knows whats the biggest cam I can run w/ out flycutting my pistons. Im wanting to run the f15 or a cam similar to it. Im just for all out performance. I currently have a futural custom cam in between the f13 n f14, but im hesitant on putting it in, bcause i bought this cam new from a tech member n Im trying to figure out if its a bad ground or not. I dont want to trash my lifters. Any info would be appreciated. thanks

with .015 milled off the TEA 5.3 heads that puts you around a 59-60cc combustion chamber. TEA says on there 5.3 heads every .005 is equal to/around 1cc. saying you started off with a 62-63cc head.
I think cajun99ss is about right with the F11 being the biggest you can run without flycutting. maybe the F13, but you should contact Futral, assuming your sticking with the Futral grinds. I'd recommend you take a picture of your cam and the end of it that tells the grind type, and send that to Jon@Futral to see if he can tell you if you got a good cam. on top of all that i know you dont want to flycutt but if i was you i would seriously look into it to allow you to run a cam you want without having to worry about PtoV clearances being a issue.

Thanks guys, Ive always wanted to run a big cam, i love the sound. Now im starting to look at the vengeance cams, n im impressed w/ the hp #s there making w/ cam only. Ive even been thinking bout selling the heads n cam n going cam only. What would you guys do? Im thinking i could get just about the same power w/ cam only vs. my heads n cam. Oh yeah, was it only the f13 cams that were going bad?

228 @.050" on the intake side is the largest we can safely recommend on the 5.3 head. Anything larger than that MUST be checked for P-V clearance. That's not to say a 230 cam will not clear but we have seen 232 cams crash!

If you have aftermarket valves, a mill of .015, a thinner than stock gasket, stock valve angle, and a cam like the F14....I sure hope you measure. That's really pushing it in my opinion.
By the way, flycutting really isn't that hard. It just takes a little more money and time.
