rollmaster timing set. any good?
anybody here ever used a rollmaster timing set? byun speed carries them for a very reasonable price, but that worries me about possible inferior quality. also, when a double roller timing chain is used, spacers are needed to push the oil pump out a bit to make enough clearance. anybody know where i can get them? just can't seem to find em
Thanks,
Wayne

I have a rollmaster double roller which came with the oil pump shims, after two years and 35K miles there was lots of slack (about 3/4" if I recall). It had the Rolon chain. I'll need to replace it, I wonder if I should use the Jwis chain.
LS2 chain? LS7 chain? Katech site says: "Katech has been building the Corvette C5-R engines since their existence and one part that has been bulletproof through the whole time has been the timing chain. Our timing chain is the best stock replacement timing chain on the market and is hands down better than those double rollers." - http://www.katechengines.com/street_...tail.php?id=24

"Both Rolon and IWIS chains comply with AS 1352-1974 which is the standard for automotive chains set down by Standards Australia. The Rolon chain has a breaking load of 40.4 kN while the IWIS is 41.1 kN (Amdel report 97L4607Rev1), which shows that both exceed the standard breaking load of 16.9 kN. This means there is a 1.7% difference between the two chains, which, over this range of loads is minimal.
So, what does this mean? It means that the Rolon chain is basically the same, but is around 20% cheaper. So which chain do you reckon is best?"
