Mocked up the 409 yesterday.
So my machine shop mocked up my 409 yesterday with all the goodies. I was surprised because there were no pistons out of the hole and no pistons in the hole. Is this pretty usual for them to be that way. You usually hear there out of the hole a little bit. The short block should be done by the end of the week. There balancing the rotating assembly and will be putting it together on friday. I cant wait until we get it in the car.

when they get it shortblocked i would check to see exactly how much they stick out/in or not at all and order head gaskets then if you haven't already. it sounds like you will benefit from a thin gasket like an .040" for a good, tight quench.

Zero deck is exactly that the pistons are neither in nor out of the hole. That's one of the benefits of the iron blocks though is the 9.240 deck height. Most shelf pistons are recommended to be run with a decked block to help with the quench. For those of us though who are ordering custom pistons that extra. .010 is nice to have as you can order your pistons with that in mind and have more compression height.
