Default I may need new lifters

My 98 TA has been sitting for about 4 weeks now, trying to get any time I can spare to do some work to it. I started it up about two days ago for the first time in about 4 weeks. My brother and I started hearing a noise from the top of the block. He said he was pretty sure that was a lifter going bad, and that if one went bad the rest would eventually go bad too. How could he guess that it was probably that? I don't know, but he is a dang good mechanic.

So tell me, if this is true, what should I be looking for when I go about buying new lifters? I have a Comp Cam that I'm unsure of the specs (from previous owner), somewhere around .224/.228, 113, 114 or so LSA, .581 lift... or something. What are good lifters to buy? Do I have to get specifically designed Comp lifters or can I just buy any LS1 lifters? Do I have to change the rocker arms too? I am not experienced with the valvetrain, so help me out guys. Should I change anything else on my car while we are at it? Supposively I have "ported LS6" heads. But I may remember seeing the '241' casting number on the heads, so perhaps the previous owner lied about that? Eventually I'll want to go with a more aggressive & meaner cam, and maybe better heads (although I hear many like the LS6 heads).

I wanna know the answer to this too. My motor has been sitting in my truck for a month now, and probably won't be started for another month.

I don't know how this got to Gen. III internals. I'm posting a new thread in Gen. IV. This one can be deleted.
