Default rear main seal, has to be broken in?

put a new rear main seal in about a month ago, everything was perfect until i went on a 600mile trip. then it started leaking oil from the rear main seal

was i suppose to drive it around for short distances or something for a little bit?

No. I'd say that you got the lip of the seal folded over. There are about three special installation tools (Kent-Moore and W2W are two) on the market to install it without folding the seal back over. In lieu of that, I would recommend taking something like a thin piece of plastic and carefully working the seal around the rear crank hub.

Sure it's the seal? Did you pull the tranny and check? If it was installed properly, I have my money on the pan gasket that's leaking. There's a critical spot there where the pan, block and rear cover sit. If you dont RTV it in the right places, it's bound to start leaking.

Check it out before you go tearing into the seal again...just my .02
