Default Oil pressure gauge problem

Before we did this cam swap my stock oil pressure gauge always sat at 60 even when the car was off and when first starting up the car it would be at 60 and go up to 80 sit there most of the time then drop to 60 and then 40 after about 20-30 minutes of normal driving. We figured the oil sending unit was bad and replaced it. This morning when we first started the car up after the cam swap the needle went all the way to the highest and then dropped to 40 after a few minutes. After shutting the car off the needle still sits at 40...never goes to zero so we assume there is something wrong with the gauge itself. Anyone else have this problem and how to fix it?
