Default Checking P-V clearance

Does anyone know where to get or what to use for "light springs" to check piston-valve clearance. Using this method seems a little more precise than "claying pistons". If you clay pistons, what do you use to measure the clay thickness. Claying does not seem as precise as using spring/dial indicator method

Default Re: Checking P-V clearance

if you get "solid" clay (not real soft), it is as precise as you need to be.

put the clay on the top of the piston and turn the engine over. When you remove the clay, put it down on a hard surgace and with a sharp razor, cut through the center of the valve depression. Then you can take calipers and measure the thickness.
