Default Anything to look for?

Im looking into a 98 SS and I dont know that much about LS1's

Is there anything I need to watch for like the opti proplem in the LT1?

Also Since 98 is still an early engine model ive heard it locks up oil pumps and consumes oil? This true?

Thanks for any help in advance!

True. Swap oil pump for a LS6 pump or Melling. Not expensive, just requires you to take off balancer, timing cover and drop the oil pan a bit. Put a new crank seal on the cover and your good.

If you are buying it with the intent to mod it, just know that the valve covers are different from 99+ LS1 engines, as is the coil mounting. If you swap heads, you'll have to get valve covers too.

Also, the '98 PCM is a different bird, and doesn't have all the same support the aftermarket has for 99+ PCM's, but that can also be swapped.
