Default What does a Underdrive pulley do?

How do you decide what pulleys to get? I have a 2000 T/A with the prc 2.5 5.3 heads and ms3. I am sure that an electric water pump takes the load off the crank but what is more benificial, Underdrive or water pump? Why?

they are different prices, but most people do a pulley first so i guess that would be the more benificial choice. The underdrive pully turns the alternator at a lower rate of speed by using a different size pulley. Basically, your alternator is spun at a lower speed (relative to rpm of course) because the pulley is a different size. This results in less resistance on the crank shaft due to the alternator and allows the engine to transfer that extra power to the ground. This does result in a slightly lower power output from your alternator but in most cars (i.e. those cars w/o huge sterio systems), it is plenty to insure reliability. I have a 1000Watt amp and mine works great.
