Default Best Cam/Stock Engine

Wondering what you guys like for cams on a pretty much stock engine. I'm only going with a cam and my fast90/90 set up for now with a little silly gas. Also...does anyone know what the max lift is that you can go with without having to flycut the pistons? Input would be great.

Well you will have to get some headers for any cam that is going to perform. Fast 90 you speak of is nice piece and silly gas you speak of I am taking is nitrous. People on here are going to tell you more than likely to go with a 224 cam and the most talk about is Thunder Racings or a cheater cam is another option and a few others you may get by without headers. Both are good starter cams plenty of venders got great cams but you need to set a goal, I myself like the 2002 -2004 LS6 stock cam but it sounds stock but have had good luck with the ones Ive put in cars without headers and performs close to how the 224 cam does. I think when you get in the .600 lift ranges is were you have to start ot wore about flycuting with stock heads. But BEST is a shakey territory so Good Luck on your decision.

Wink Small Cam?

Believe it or not; some guys in the Car Mags have claimed they dipped into low 12's with the small Comp Cam 212/218. They claim it is a torque monster. I remain skeptical unless it was done on a hard biting track with very good air. Most will pick a cam like the 224 TR.
Notice in my Sig that I have one of the small Comp cams and no way does it drive like a stocker. I also lost about 3-4mpg with this cam and I have a good tune. Comp says no tuning needed on the 212/218.

That sounds like a plan also...I will be running longtubes with tsp true duals.....forgot to mention that. I'm not really worried about gas mileage either....just want something that sounds nasty and makes good mid to top end power...

mid/top end power cam that loves NO2 that would also love that FAST 90 setup would be the MS3 cam I own. and if A4 You'd need a high stall TC though if you didn't or haven't upgraded that, a 4000 would be recommended. Either way, long story short....everybody's gonna tell ya different. 224 is also a really good cam
