Default Soooo lost on choosing a cam

I just can't make my mind up out of all the options out there. It's really driving me crazy. I want to do it right the first time because I will be doing the install myself.
A little background on my car. 01 SS M6 44k miles. Mods are Lid, cold air, LT's, TD's P&P TB, and a tune. Went 12.8 at 114 on street tires with 3.42's and 10 bolt.
This car is not a daily driver. It's a weekend toy but I may drive it to work on a nice day. I don't beat on it much but I love to jump on it getting on highways and such. The car may see the track 2-3 times a year.
My goals for the car are mid-high 11's and over 400WHP.
I may get heads down the road or then again I might use spray but that's doubtful. I will probably change the gears to 4.10's and I when I do the cam swap I will be installing an U/D pulley.

Something I don't want is a torque monster. I'd like a happy medium. I also want it to sound nasty at idle but be able to run on it's own.
I've got about $1200.00 to work with.
I know I should be asking Patrick G to spec me out something but I wanted to get some opinions first.
Fire away!

i would personally choose a cam that would give me great usable power across the whole power band instead cams that peak at high rpms. pm some of the sponsor with what you want and they can help you out with your choice.

your right, patrick needs to talk with you, also read his write up on making horsepower, but if i had to choose, 224/224/.595/.595/112+2 for the later nitrous. also a good cam is the cheater cam from TR. just my .02 and someone will probably disagree, but thats what makes this webiste fun, plenty of opinions.

Why don't you have a poll. It seems to be a popular way of choosing cams.

The guys not asking for who to talk to about a cam. In his post he mentions PG so he obviously knows about him. If you ask me Ive been a big fan of the TR224 / 112. Proven cam and makes great power. Will sound great with your TD's too. Want to go a bit more i'd go with the Torquer 2. Those are just off the shelf cams. In your situation I would pick an off the shelf cam just to keep things a bit on the simple side. Lots of them out there. Lots of experience. And that way a retailer can tell you exactly what to expect.

Thanks guys and yes I'm just looking for opinions and maybe a point in the right direction. I'm definitely going to go bigger than a 224 though. I just think that I'll want something bigger down the road if I went with a 224 now.

A few of my friends have suggested an MS4 but I think that's going to be overkill for me and I don't want to rev the engine that high to obtain all the power. I think the max I'll spin my engine to is 6500-6600

^ with that said I will concur w/ lt1porche's post in that a torquer 2 might be good for you. thats what i have, dyno #'s (without u/d pulley) in sig w/ dyno vid, and it made good power through the whole curve and actually made more torque than I thought they did. Mine is a DD , on a 113 lsa so not too choppy, but I got it tuned by Jason @ TSP and get 28 hwy/19-20 city-ish when my foots not in it. It is very tame w/ the tune and in stop and go traffic its very well behaved! Just another thought for ya!

I just got 230/232 cam, might want to look into one of those.. If you do go with a cam, you might concider changeing your gear ratio to a 4.10 or better yet getting a new rear end to get the most out of the cam.

+1 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Thunder Racing 224/224 112

proven mid 11's

i know of a car that went 11.7's w. the cam un-tuned with LT's stock TB ls1 intake stock heads etc etc etc... (needless to say very far from full bolt ons)

and bigger certainly is not always better... go with a PROVEN combo

I would get something off the shelf also. There is a ton to choose from. From a tr224 to a ms4 and everything in between. I liked the TR230/224 I had a few years ago. It made 390rwhp with full bolt ons and ran 11.90 in a stick car. And 10.82 @ 126 mph on a 150 shot. With a half *** tune.

I like thunders cam because that is all I have used up till now. I just picked up a used Torquer v3 I'm getting ready to install in my camaro.

I have A T-Rex going in my 383 I'm building for my mustang drag car.

I think there is a lot of good choices out there.

You probabally want something like a 228/232 on 112. Dont put 4.10's in the 10 bolt though
