Default head bolt tightness......

well damn!!! got both heads on and now as i look at it i think the number 9 and 10 bolts are torqued too much by about 40 -50 degrees, my question is is this ok or do i need to take them allll back apart and start all over? if any1 says yes to this i won't like them very much also

If it is torqued on too much, it most likely wont be that much of a problem

UHG - did you ever consider writting soap operas!

This exact issue was addressed about two weeks ago. There were many schools of thought on the issue....some said leave it, others said loosen the bolts some, others said rip it a part and start new....

I think the guy started over with new bolts and a fresh head gasket.......

Try a search to see if you can find that thread,,,

When I did my heads I sprayed the new bolts with silicone and it prevented me from marking the heads with a felt tip pen,,,, So I just torked the big bolts to 75lbs and the small bolts a little less....no issues for me.....

...since 40 - 50 degrees is not much (360 being a full turn) I would say your OK....

I think the reason youre supposed to torque bolts 9 and 10 less than 1-8 is because theyre shorter, therefore don't have to stretch more. Im pretty sure that had you torqued them too much, you would have either snapped the bolt or stripped the threads. It its staying on there tight, I personally, would leave it alone.

Just bolt that bad boy back together and fire her up!
