Default 160 thermo

ok so i was ordering some parts for my car and the price wasnt enough to get free shipping so i decided to buy a 160 thermo. well not knowing much about it i now see i may need it tuned and some other things done. i was wondering what all i need to do when when i install it. and is it good to have a 160 degree or is 180 better. if someone could just fill me in on all about it that would be good. thanks alot.

160 thermo is fine. If you can, you should also get the fan to kick on at like 170 degrees so it keeps it cool as well. Theres no reason why you cant run a 160 thermo all year round.

Reprogram your PCM, or Run a Manual switch. IMO a manual switch is the way to go. If you do a search; im sure somone has done a write up about it. Good Luck!

160 therms were a rage several years ago.

I believe the engine makes more HP when the 180 temp is used, however.

Generally, the fans will be necessary only when your car is stuck in traffic and air is not moving through the radiator.

woah.. disagree completley with that 180 degree call. Also, you should know that allthough my thermo is 160 degrees, my car runs at about 174-176 degrees, it wont actually run right at 160. I had my fans tuned to come on at a certain temp, i dont remember what its set at.

I have always run 160's and have never had a problem with this Florida heat
and the fans always kick on when needed. A cooler motor always runs better, IMO (160 - 180)
