Anyone ever switched head bolts/studs without removing heads?
I've heard of a lot of other guys doing this with other engines, but I'm not sure I want to. Supposedly if you change out the bolts one at a time, the gasket will never lose it's seal and you won't have to take the heads off the car. In my case I am switching from ARP bolts to studs. I'll most likely pull the heads anyways just because I'd feel better about it, but I'm just curious if anyone has done this on an LS1 before?
Thanks

I would drain the coolant from the engine and vacuum any coolant you can get out of there to minimize the chance of coolant seeping under a gasket and getting into the bolt holes. Since the holes do not enter the water jacket (like a Gen I or Gen II), you can get water in the holes and the bolt or stud will try to compress it, but the pressure can can cause the block to crack.
