tapping noise on driver side

tapping noise on driver side need some advice getting aggravated with this car. 98 camaro z28 ls1. i pulled the pushrods and checked them they were fine. driver side head is very nasty looking compared to the passenger side that it clean aluminum. something is wrong with the driver side. also lost power. what can this be? lifter?valves?
