what heads and cam for a 383 stroker?
ok i am going to get rid of my ported ls6 heads and my ms4 cam. i want more power. i have a stoker 383 an i was told that the cam was too small for the motor. and the heads are not going to flow enough.

The MS4 is not too small for a 383 IMO. You just chose a cam that wasn't a match for your setup. Though I dont see your HP#'s so it might actually be a good setup. I will be using the smaller MS3 cam in my 402 build which is obviously bigger as far as CI's go. I have choosen that cam after I flowed my heads (243's) and had some people spec it out for me. It just so happened the MS3 was almost spot on to what I was looking for. My PRC 243's stoped flowing past .600" on the intake side @ 305 CFM and flowed 293 CFM at .650" on the intake as well. The MS4 isn't the best cam for the LS6 head IMO especially considering the .649" intake lift. I bet your 383 was over cammed if anything. A lot of people around here are all about peak HP #'s and not about all around driving, track times and Cobra Smokability How much HP are you looking to get out of her? Why not just throw a 150 shot on her and call it a day. Thats what I will be doing once my craving for speed needs a new heaping spoonfull of HP. Will it be a DD, or Weekend driver. We will need some more info to better assist you.

The MS4 is definately not to small for a 383ci. What are your plans for the car? Is this a street machine setup or a track one? Your heads and cam selection should depend heavily on this question.

I know a few of the vette guys are running a Futral 239/243 that is used in most of his 383 builds. I ran that cam for a while as well, and it works very well. I only pulled it out to go bigger since I am not concerned with my low end so much anymore.

Our SSX that you mentioned has made some pretty good power in a couple 382 combos...
granted one was a 14:1 cr on race fuel.
but good heads are the key to making power on big cube big cam motors.

I agree, the Magic Sticks can be very good in 383-408ci builds depending on compression and the rest of the combo. Everyone gets so excited about CUSTOM grinds and forgets that before these cams were "shelf" camshafts, they were custom! Let us know how that combo works in your 402. I think it could be a blast!

No magic combo here. Stage 1 livernois heads, ls6 intake, ported stock throttle body, and a tr224 cam 114. Power at the wheels 423/434rwhp/tq. Yes, not a top end beast but the mid range is strong. 65 ftlb. more and 55hp more then the 346 (384/382rwhp/tq) it use to be. However, I am looking into a cam with 229/237 duration with a 113 overlap and .610" lift since the heads stall after .600" and at .600" they flow 305cfm.

i had the ms4 in my previous engine till i blew it but hell 169k miles and sprayed like no ones business it was bound to happen but any how i chose not to reuse it anyhow i built a 383 with TSP LS6 stg 2.5 heads and Their Texas giant cam 248/254 .613 .622 114 it pulls good has good street manners which was important to me because ITS MY DAILY DRIVER im gonna start to spray it here within the next weeks if you use that cam you'll love it mid ant top end are killer
