which heads should a guy start with if he was to do his own porting.

ive done sets of ls heads 317s and 5.3 heads the 5.3s were way easier to do because of the shorter runners....theres alot of info here on porting you just have to look for it...

the cheapest ones you can find!! learn on a cheap set, it doesnt hurt as much if you ruin them. Take them and have them flowed you need to know if your hurting or helping

Yeah, Id go cheap. I bought an already ruined head to practice on first. I had great luck with my 241's. They were my first time ever porting heads. Here are some pics of my heads, although I dont have any of the finished product after they were fully cleaned up.
