Re: LS1 vs. LS6 cam?
The LS6 cam will give more top end HP, 20-25 or so, but not much more in the low or mid range. It is less expensive than most other aftermarket cams though and I don't think it requires any tuning.
LS6 cam is around $200, most aftermarket cams around $400. However, with almost every single decent aftermarket cam you will need better valvesprings @ ~$160/set or so. You can get by with cheaper LS6 valvesprings with the LS6 cam, they are good up to the .550 lift of the LS6 cam. Most aftermarket cams have a good bit higher than .550 lift.
The LS6 cam is a budget alternative that will give a decent power increase over stock with stock driveability, but if you want some serious power, you'll probably want to step up to an MTI, Thunder racing, TSP, etc., etc. cam which will cost more and require tuning to run well. In my opinion its worth the extra $$$.
