dont know jack about making cubes, please explain
a friend of mine said all i need to do is change the crankshaft, and that will move the pistons further creating more volume. i assume this is stroking. is that really all you need to do? what else must be done? how much does it cost? surely it cannot be this easy, otherwise everyone would do it instead of going for boost

A new crankshaft will cost you over $1000, not to mention the machine work that is needed. Then, you'll probably need to clean up the cylinders and get some aftermarket pistons (another $600?), and while you're in there, rods may be good...thats another $600. Add in machining and labor, fasteners, etc ($1000?) and you've got probably $3-5k just for the shortblock not even installed in the car. All that work for what? 40-50 cubes? The HP per dollar isnt there for most people, plus, you'll be down a while unless you have a spare engine sitting around for the rebuild. That is why everybody doesn't do it.

He's right. In LS-1's they make "all bore", or "all stroke" packages. Either will net you around 382 cubic inches depending on the crank, or you can do both and get 422 cubic inches. Of course cubic inches can only be calculated by the size of the bore and stroke. The above are just examples.

why will a goddamn crank cost $1000?!
isnt it a chunk of metal grinded down to specs?
how much are cranks for old pieces of ****?
i.e. mustang 5.0s?
just because it is LS1?
(needless to say, im not going any further with this idea)
