Default 383 408 402

what will be the best way for me to go? My engine is gone and needs to be rebuild or replaced. If I go with a 383 I want to use the same block. The thing that I want to know is if use the same block how much am I saving and is it worth it. I was shoping for prices and all three assembled engines are about the same. If I have get a new assembled engine what should I get 408 or 402. I also need a shop to install it I live in houston, what shops do you recommend.

Texas speed offers nice iron 408 shortblock, weber racing engines looks nice too!! all under 4 grand..

Well, have a good look to the sponsors on the right and happy shopping!!

And you might want to get your hands on the last GMhigh tech mag cause there is 6-7 pages on the subject; all major sponsor are in there with their choice of shortblocks at nice price!!!

Yea, that's been the best GMHTP mag in a while. It shows all the different stroker motors built by all of the top companies....

Pick up the "Bible", GM Hightech. This month has a ton of crate engines as well as bottom ends for under $6000.00. Many under $4500.00. Get the Hot Rod Magazine with the yellow 69 Chevelle on it. It also has a bunch of GM crate engines with prices and 1/4 mile times of each engine. Hope this helps. You're in the neighborhood of some great shops and dealers for what you're looking for, good luck.

Ive been looking around here on this same subject and honestly rebuilding your current LS1 seems to be more economical. Reuse your stock crank and get 3.905 bore pistons and have yourself a nice little 370. If you reuse your stock block it will probably need to be honed for cleanup purposes anyway. Anything larger than a 3.905 bore will probably need to be resleeved. Or go the other way with stock size pistons and a 4 inch stroke and have a 382.
All depends on what you want out of your motor, but there are much cheaper ways than all out buying a new motor.
